Why Ahooga?
Most regular bikes use 28-inch wheels. Max uses 20-inch wheels, which are generally better suited for urban riding.
First, the center of gravity is lower. That translates directly into more stability and a safer ride in stop-and-go city traffic. You can see the same logic applied across the industry: most modern cargo bikes and longtails have already moved to 20-inch wheels for exactly this reason.
Second, the bike is more dynamic. A shorter wheelbase makes the bike easier to maneuver. Tight turns, weaving through traffic, and navigating crowded bike lanes becomes noticeably easier.
Third, it’s more practical. The smaller format takes up less space, which helps both for storage and for riding in dense urban environments.
Acceleration is also quicker. Smaller wheels accelerate faster, which is particularly useful when riding uphill or when dealing with constant stops at traffic lights.
Finally, Max uses wide 2.4-inch tires. These add a significant amount of comfort and grip, compensating for the smaller wheel size while keeping the ride smooth.
About 95% of folding bikes on the market use a single-tube frame that is simply hinged in the middle to allow folding.
That design is easy to produce, but it comes with clear compromises. A single tube that is broken in half cannot achieve the same stiffness as a full triangular frame. The result is a ride that often feels flexible or unstable. Riders commonly describe it as a “spaghetti effect”: the frame flexes, energy is lost, and stability suffers.
That’s why performance bikes always rely on triangular frame structures. Triangles create stiffness, stability, and efficient power transfer.
Ahooga solved the challenge of combining folding with a triangular structure through its patented double-triangle twin-tube system. The frame keeps the structural advantages of a real bike while still folding into a compact package.
The result is immediately noticeable. The most common feedback from first-time riders is:
“Wow, it rides like a real bike.”
or
“It feels incredibly stable.”
A simple way to experience it is to ride at a decent speed and take a corner. The bike remains extremely stable—often more stable than single-tube folding bikes and even many 28-inch bikes due to the lower center of gravity.
The key point: Max manages to deliver this ride quality without sacrificing compactness. When folded, it remains one of the smallest 20-inch packages available.
Max delivers the ride quality of a full-size bike while eliminating many of the drawbacks.
You can:
- place it easily in your car trunk
- combine it with trains or buses
- store it safely inside your home or office
A traditional bike often requires a garage or outdoor storage. Max folds to the size of a small trolley, making indoor storage easy.
Another advantage is flexibility: the adjustable seatpost and stem allow riders from roughly 1.50 m to 1.95 m to use the same bike with a quick adjustment.
It can easily become a shared family bike.
When folded, Max measures approximately:
- 72cm length
- 69cm height
- 39cm width
This is one of the most compact folded sizes available for a 20-inch bike.
Folding is also extremely quick. The record is under 7 seconds, while most riders fold it comfortably in about 10 seconds.
Max was designed so you can upgrade later.
If you start with the A-Max (non-electric) and later decide you want assistance, your dealer can upgrade the bike to E-Max.
Many riders actually discover that the analog version already delivers plenty of performance thanks to the efficient geometry and riding comfort. But if your needs change, the upgrade path keeps your investment protected.
Removable battery
The electrical integration on E-MAX is so sleek, that you will be getting that question a lot.
The battery is safely locked inside the top tube. This allows extra safety, as well as less bulk while you travel: you only handle the battery when you want to. Charge it on or off the bike, it's your call.
E-MAX: All about power
The honest answer: it depends.
Range varies based on rider weight, cargo, terrain, and—most importantly—the level of assistance used.
The standard battery has 248 Wh. Combined with our efficient motor system, this allows a maximum range of around 60 km.
For longer rides, a range extender is available. This additional bottle battery provides 150 Wh, adding roughly 30–40 km of extra range.
For everyday commuting, the standard battery is typically more than sufficient.
The display also shows live remaining range based on your current assistance level, which makes energy management straightforward.
One more advantage: the motor system is very light and friction-free. Even with the assistance turned off—or with an empty battery—the bike rides smoothly like a regular bicycle.
Yes.
The battery is fully certified according to current regulations. The internal cells come from Samsung, one of the world’s leading suppliers of lithium battery cells.
In short: the battery quality matches the rest of the bike’s premium components.
Whichever way you prefer.
You can charge the battery directly on the bike via the charging port. In that case there is no need to remove it.
If you prefer charging indoors, simply unlock the battery with the key, slide it out, and charge it wherever convenient.

E-Max includes:
two front lights
one rear light
One front light is integrated into the head tube. A second Busch & Müller projector light is mounted on the front mudguard, delivering 50 lux of strong illumination.
At the rear, the light is integrated into the mudguard or the rear rack (depending on configuration).
A-Max uses high-quality Spanninga Arco lights.
Fold in love: it's all in the details!
Max uses an adjustable seatpost and adjustable stem.
That means both saddle height and handlebar height can be changed in seconds.
This allows:
- quick adaptation for different riders
- comfort adjustments depending on ride length
- easy sharing between family members

The wide 2.4-inch tires provide significant cushioning when riding over cobblestones, curbs, or uneven city streets.
Additionally, the rear triangle connector—the black component where the rear triangle attaches to the seatpost—provides a small amount of flex. This absorbs road vibrations and adds extra comfort.
The result is a smooth and comfortable ride in typical urban environments.

Max includes a trolley mode. When the bike is folded but the stem remains extended, the handlebar becomes a handle so you can roll the bike next to you like a suitcase.
This is particularly useful in places where cycling is not allowed, such as train stations or buildings.
You only need to lift the bike when putting it into a car trunk or carrying it up stairs.
Yes.
Max supports several cargo options:
- Rear rack with up to 10 kg capacity
- Rear bag for daily items such as laptops, sports gear, or groceries
- Optional Klickfix front system on the stem for additional bags
The total payload capacity of the bike is 120 kg.
- A-Max derailleur: 13 kg
-A-Max Alfine: 14 kg
- E-Max derailleur: 17 kg
- E-Max Alfine: approximately 18 kg
This makes Max one of the lightest folding bikes in the 20-inch category. Many competing models weigh 2–4 kg more.
Also note: lifting is rarely required thanks to the trolley mode.
